Why Is It So Important To Nail Into Studs?

you know when your hanging a frame

why do you have to nail into a studWhy Is It So Important To Nail Into Studs?
Because drywall(which is the material used for walls in most newer homes) or plaster(the material used in older homes) usually won't hold a picture or mirror because of the weight. If the item isn't real heavy, it ';might'; hold it for awhile, but in the long run it will probably fall and break or hurt someone. This website may help. Good luck! Why Is It So Important To Nail Into Studs?
To make sure that the object will be held in place with out falling esp. if it is heavy.
It isn't. Just make sure that your frame isn't too heavy for the drywall to hold up. The drywall will easily hold up most frames.
In order to hold maximum weight it's the best way.

If the weight is light, sheetrock will hold it by using the proper anchors. Nails into sheetrock is not recommended.
They say that, but I have hung pictures for years ';without'; doing that! They don't put studs where you need them for your pictures and such. As long as it is not too heavy, don't worry about it. And when I do get something heavy, I just use a big nail. Works for me.
Drywall(aka sheet rock) is not designed to bear the weight of something heavy. If you put the nail into the stud, then the wood structural member of your house is carrying the weight of the picture or what have you.
