Why does my new nail polish dry out after using it a couple times?

I just bought a very pretty dark dark red nail polish by revlon and it started to dry out and became hard to use after just two applications. This seems to happen with every type of nail polish i try, although more with darker colors than the lighter ones. why does this happen and is there anything i can do?Why does my new nail polish dry out after using it a couple times?
Make sure you wipe the top of the bottle off before putting the cap back on. If you let polish dry on the threads of the bottle, it can cause little gaps that can let air in and dry the polish out. Also, it could be old to begin with, even though you just bought it. Some stores have polish forever on their shelves before it is sold. Also, try putting a very small amount of vaseline around the threads of the bottle. This will help to keep the cap from sticking, and also keep air out. Close it tightly after each use, and only leave it open while you are using it. Close it as soon as you are done with it.

Also, try using some good quality polish like OPI, Essie, Creative Nail Design, China Glaze - and there are a few more good ones. You will get better end results, and it will be well worth the extra money spent on them.

One other thing - if your polish gets thick after having it for a while, you can thin it with a few drops of nail polish thinner. Don't use polish remover. Buy thinner made specifically for thinning polish. You can find it in most beauty supply stores. As for the top quality brands of polish, you can find them for sale in many nail salons, and also you can get some in a beauty supply store as well - depending on the brand. I would suggest staying away from the cheaper brands. They're just not worth it in the long run.Why does my new nail polish dry out after using it a couple times?
Unless you are consistantly an idiot (you do not seem like one), this is not a problem with screwing the cap on tightly enough. This is more likely a problem with taking too long to paint your nails. As states in other answers, a drop or two (no more) of polish remover should be enough to get your polish nice and runny again.
Use felt tip pens instead
Nail polish dries when it comes into contact with the air. If the bottle is closed tightly after use, the remaining polish ought to remain in a liquid state, as there is no air in the container. If however, you are finding it drying out in the bottle, it may be that you are not closing the bottle tightly enough. If you are worried about breaking the stopper, you might like to consider closing the bottle in the usual way, (but, tighter!) and then placing it in a small plastic bag such as used in freezers. That should ensure that the air is excluded and the polish stays liquid.
i'm a nail polish addict..toes %26amp; fingers are always painted..so i know that this is really unusual.

it has to be something you are doing wrong...like not screwing up the lid properly because Revlon is an expensive %26amp; top quality brand...i have used it for years..and never had a problem.

you can drizzle a few drops of nail polish remover onto cotton wool..and squeeze it into the bottle..put the lid back on and shake...that will sort the problem...but it shouldnt happen!
Screw the top on when your done!!
add one drop of varnish remover, acetone, and then give it a good shake, this should revive your polish. as soon as you find it starts to thicken again, just add a drop and mix.
Keep the cap off too long
Make sure you have closed the bottle very tightly =]
air
Next time, before one dries out, add a few drops of nail polish remover and shake it up. By thinning it with solvent, you will reduce the chances of it drying out on you again.
well maybe you don't put the lid on tight enough
I don't know.Maybe if you buy a better more expensive kind then your polish will be better in quality!Think about that!
Don't keep it in dry places...or in the sun....thats all i can say...try in the bathroom.....to store them
Not sure why it happens. Maybe its cheap nail polish?

If and when that happens you can add a few drops of nail polish remover into the nail polish, shake it up and its normally as good as new :)
you probably dontn close it all the wy or

you leave it exposed to the air to long when you paint your nails,

maybe it just seems like it is closed all the way when you have darker ones... and you can tell whenit is closed with the lighter ones.
make sure the tops on securely . keep the nail polish in the fridge.
